We started with a very sloped and unusable narrow side yard with HOA constraints that wouldn't allow the patio to extend beyond the side of the home. Our clients wanted to expand off their existing deck and build a patio with access from the driveway and deck. We had a defined budget to work with.

We designed a space and utilizing steps, retaining walls, a lot of excavation and moving the deck steps for better direct access to the patio and were even able to add a pergola. Check out the project progression below (click a pic for larger view)
